Joanne L. Maples

Joanne L. Maples Welsh passed away comfortably at her home on Friday, August 31, 2012, with her family by her side.

Born February 14, 1938, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Frederick C. and Catherine G. ( Lease ) Adams.

Joanne had retired from Boat America. She was also a caretaker for her sister, Mary, during her illness.

She was a member of the Goodfellowship Club in Cumberland; American Legion; and the Eagles Club in Hagerstown.

Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Welsh.

Joanne is survived by two daughters, Kristy Humm and husband Bill of Clear Spring, Susie Singleton and husband Steve of Bedford, VA.; three sons, James "Butch" Maples and wife Hillary of Hagerstown, Charles "Rick" Tolley and wife Dale of Indianhead, Kenneth McCrary of Lynchburg, VA.; two step daughters, Robin Hupp and husband James of Cumberland, Aleeta Welsh of Hagerstown; five grandchildren, Kristie Matthews, Candace Smith, Dawn Powell, Amanda Tolley and Crista Tolley; two step grandchildren, Richard and James Rhinehart; seven great-grandchildren, Braden (who helped care for her during her last days), Garry, Jaelynn, Chloe, Ashlynn, Dylan and Madison.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Catherine Moore and brothers, Gary and Larry Patton.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00pm on Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, with Chaplin Eric Henderson officiating.

Friends will be received one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to the Community Free Clinic, 249 Mill St., Hagerstown, MD 21740.
