John Ervin Spessard

John Ervin Spessard, 90, of Hagerstown, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2011, at Broadmore Senior Living in Hagerstown.
Born Nov. 20, 1920, in Washington Township, Pa., he was the son of the late John B. and Lela Maude (Downin) Spessard.
Mr. Spessard was a graduate of Washington Township High School.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He retired from Grove Manufacturing, where he worked as a service representative. Prior to that, he worked for Lutherville Supply Co., Funkstown.
He was an active member of Downsville Christian Church, Hagerstown; a life member of Williamsport Fire Co.; a member of REACT fire police; and a life member of American Legion Post 202 and The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84, Williamsport.
He is survived by two sons, Barry D. Spessard, and wife Sue, and Ronald C. Spessard, all of Waynesboro, Pa.; four grandchildren, Lucas, Mauren, Bonnie and Diane; a niece, Kathy Poper of Chambersburg, Pa.; three stepchildren, Jack West of Spartansburg, S.C., Norma Jean Warren of Greencastle, Pa., and Donald E. West of Hagerstown; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Evelyn Anna (Nichols) Spessard; one sister, Margaret Poper; three brothers, Robert, Lloyd and Eugene Spessard; and one stepson, Norman West.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor Craig L. Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour before services
