John Henry Stevenson

John (Dusty) Henry Stevenson, age 97 passed away on April 7th. 2021.
He was born on December 9, 1923 in Richards West Virginia to the late Joseph (Harry) Henry Stevenson and Anna Mary Rae Stevenson. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane (Hammersla) Stevenson, daughter Debra Ann Stevenson, two brothers, Joseph Stevenson and Morris Stevenson, of Hagerstown MD, and three sisters Anna Mary (Pinky) Grams, Delores (Ockie) Boward of Hagerstown and Christina Harris of Smithsburg MD.
He enlisted in the Army in 1943 for WWII. He was associated with the invasion of Normandy in June 1944 and landed in Omaha Beach, and spent two years overseas fighting in WWII. He retired in 1988 from Conrail Railroad as a Conductor after 36 years with Penn Central and Conrail.
He enjoyed hobbies of wood working and building anything and everything. He loved listening to Big Band Era music while woodworking in his garage daily.
John is survived by sons, Timothy Owen Stevenson and wife Peggy of Waynesboro PA, John Edward Stevenson and wife Debra of Wayneville North Carolina and daughter Susan Miss of Smithsburg MD. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty four great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, three sisters: Loreda Elgin, and Lelia Mae Frantianni Larkin of Hagerstown MD, Madeline Jean Day of Westminster MD, and many nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends for visitation at Rest Haven Funeral Home 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown, MD Friday evening from 7-9 pm. Funeral Services will be held Saturday April 10 at 10am at Rest Haven Chapel with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery. There will be a gathering after the burial at Smithsburg Veterans Park, 68 W. Water St., Smithsburg, MD 21783.
