John J. Forsyth

John James Forsyth, 94, of Hagerstown, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Doey's House.
Born July 25, 1925 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John A. and Clara V. (Taylor) Forsyth. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his elementary school sweet heart and wife of 70 years, Mary Ruth Forsyth, who died November 25, 2018; three brothers, Richard, Stanford, Bob; and four sisters, Violet, Lily, Frances, and Joan. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
John was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving during WWII.
He retired from the family business, which he owned and operated, Forsyth Storage and Transfer.
He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, especially the game of gin.
John is survived by his daughter, Tammy Forsyth and her husband Edwin Russell; his son, John J. Forsyth and his wife Joyce; a granddaughter, Alesia Poland and husband Jon; a great-grandson, Brady Poland; several nieces and nephews, including special niece, Vickie Keller and family; family friend, Phyllis Fridinger and her family; and many friends including, Larry, Joey, Bobby, Denny, Eddie, Kipee, Bernie, Jimmy, and Dickie.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
