John Leithead Jackson

April 13, 1958 — October 9, 2010

John Leithead "Lee" Jackson, 52, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Casey House, Rockville, Md., after a courageous 19-month battle with cancer.

Lee was born April 13, 1958, in Lewistown, Pa., the third child of William and the late Nellie S. Jackson. The family moved to Hagerstown in 1969.

Lee is survived by his father and stepmother, William M. Jackson Sr. and Anna B. Jackson of Port Charlotte, Fla.; his sister, Jeanne J. Moeller and husband, Edward; brothers, Michael K. Jackson, and William M. Jackson Jr. and wife, Stephanie, all of St. Augustine, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He has a large extended family at Turning Point Inc., Hagerstown, where he resided for many years.

Lee's mother, Nellie S. Jackson, preceded him in death in August 2007.

Retired from Mack Trucks Inc., Lee was employed at Walmart for the past five years, and was an active member of the area YMCA. Throughout his life, he enjoyed swimming, walking and traveling to visit his family in Florida. Lee was diagnosed mentally ill in his early 20s. His family is very proud of his many accomplishments in life - his ability to set and reach his personal goals, his dry sense of humor, love of music, his dedication to his family, employment skills and many friends. As the family always believed, when God made Lee Jackson, the mold was then broken.

Friends and family will join together with cheers and fond memories in recognizing this extraordinary man in a celebration of life service on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.

Flowers are respectfully declined, and a memorial donation may be offered to Turning Point, P.O. Box 419, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Turning Point for the extraordinary care they provided. These caring folks helped guide and support Lee to become a valuable member of society. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him
