John Marshall McMurtrie, 85, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.
Born March 8, 1928, in Huntingdon, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Brubaker and Mildred Alice (Hoffman) McMurtrie.
John was a 1946 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany. John was a military policeman, as well as a criminal investigator for more than a year.
He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was part of the Wesleyan Class, and also an usher for many years.
He was a former member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 in Hagerstown.
John retired in 1990 after 37 years of service at Pangborn as a draftsman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Doris (Willis) McMurtrie; a son, Mike McMurtrie; and a brother, James J. McMurtrie, all of Hagerstown; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, with military honors being accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Monday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
