John Richard Kelly

John Richard Kelly, 81, of Hagerstown, passed away on Friday, November 22, 2013 at his home.

Born December 24, 1931 in Hagerstown, he was a son of the late Melvin Franklin and Lillian Grace Kelly.

He was a 1949 graduated from Hagerstown High School.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was employed as a postal carrier at the United States Postal Service for 32 years. After retirement he worked for Hagerstown Paint & Glass for 10 years.

John was the president of the Rebel Band Boosters; a member of Williamsport American Legion. His smile would light up a room and he will be remembered as a friend to everyone he met.

John is survived by his loving wife, Doris Louise Kelly, whom he married on January 11, 1951; a daughter, Kristy Sacchet and husband Joseph; two sisters, Phyllis E Minnick, Linda Lemen and husband Pete all of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Patrick J. Sacchet, Sara Jo Sacchet, Mandy K. Wainwright; two great-grandchildren, Haley Jean Wainwright, Hiler John Wainwright; three nephews, two nieces; several great-nieces and great-nephews, including special great-nephew, Dustin Black.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brother-in-laws, Robert Minnick and Leon Minnick and Great Granddaughter Lannie Jo Wainwright.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 in Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Pastor Tim Leighton officiating. Interment will follow with military honors.

The family wishes to thank Rhonda and Catherine, his angels from Washington County Hospice.
