John Walter Neugebauer

John Walter Neugebauer, 91, of Hagerstown, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey, passed away, Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the home of his daughter, Cynthia E. Neugebauer, in Keedysville, Maryland.

Born, January 24, 1922 in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of the late William and Erna (Witt) Neugebauer. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, June Ida (Wortman) Neugebauer; a daughter, Linda J. Neugebauer-Jensen; a brother, George Neugebauer; an infant brother, William Neugebauer and a sister, June Wojtech.

John was a US Navy veteran of WW II, serving as a Second Class Aviation Machinist Mate. His tours of duty were Pearl Harbor CASU1 Carrier Aircraft Services Unit; Marinas, Seipan USS Copahee (a support ship in the invasion of Seipan); back to Pearl Harbor; USS NASSAU Pleliu Island in Palau and the Philippines; and then back to Pearl Harbor for a third time. John came home and married his late wife, June, in 1945. He then finished his military career in San Diego North Island on CASU 5.

He began his career as a design draftsman with Ronson (Art Metal Works) in 1939 as a tool maker apprentice/model maker. He moved on with the Resistoflex Corp. in 1954, as a model maker and design draftsman. John retired in 1985 as a design draftsman for Automatic Switch (ASCO) of Florham Park, NJ. He also worked as a piano technician, tuning and repairing pianos for 25 years.

He was an active member of the Parsippany Presbyterian Church serving as Sunday school teacher, usher, deacon, elder and treasurer. John also volunteered his time as an EMT for the Lake Parsippany Ambulance Squad in NJ.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Chaplain Duane Musgrove officiating.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's name to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
