John Wayne Gelwicks, 63, of Hagerstown, passed away, Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the VA Medical Center, Martinsburg.
Born September 11, 1949 in Hagerstown he was the son of William L. and Geraldine D. (Worthington) Gelwicks of Hagerstown.
John was a 1967 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.
He was a US Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, having served from 1967 until 1971.
In addition to his parents he also is survived by a sister, Donna Gelwicks Resh of Waynesboro, Pa.; three brothers, William E. Gelwicks of Glendale, Az., Gary L. Gelwicks of Hagerstown and Terry L. Gelwicks; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia A. Boyd and Cynthia J. Gelwicks; maternal grandparents, Clarence M. and Esther P. Worthington; paternal grandparents, Charles F. and Nettie Gelwicks.
A memorial service will be conducted on Friday, April 19, 2013 at 6:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jerry L. Lowans officiating.
Friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to services.
