Joseph Eugene Shilling

Joseph "Joe" Eugene Shilling, of Hagerstown, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Autumn Assisted Living in Hagerstown.
Born June 11, 1931, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late Maynard Leon Shilling and Orpha Louise Bowman Shilling.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, served in Korea and was an active member of the Funkstown American Legion, Post No. 211.
He retired from Hagerstown and Thurmont Shoe Company where he was employed for 35 years. He was also an avid fisherman which he enjoyed.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beulah (Hart) Shilling; one daughter, Donna Shilling Wiles and her husband, Rodney; one grandson, Joshua Wiles; and his special K-9 friend, Cinny of eight years.
He is also survived by two brothers, Clyde Shilling and wife, Winnie, William Shilling and wife, Linda; one sister, Emma Sprankle and husband, Harry, all of Hagerstown.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Ethel Otzelberger, Janice Monninger, Isabelle Shilling, Betty Eaton; and two brothers, Merle Shilling and Robert Shilling.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
