Joseph Ray Place, 76, Hagerstown, passed away peacefully Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Coffman Nursing Home.
Joseph was born in Berkeley Springs, WV on October 18, 1941. He was the son of the late Clarice Mae (Ambrose) and Samuel Jefferson Place. In addition to his parents, Joseph is preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years Susan Jeanne (Hawke) Place; a brother Phillip Jefferson Place; and a sister Mary Myers.
Joseph graduated from South Hagerstown High School in 1959 and served in the U.S. Navy.
Joseph worked as a foundry worker at Pangborn Manufacturing.
Joseph was active in the outdoors, he loved mountain biking, woodworking and spending time with his family.
Joseph is survived by two sons, Jeff Place and wife Jean and Michael Place; three grandchildren Ryan Place and wife Rebecca, Tara Place, and Jena Place; sister-in-law Kathy DeMario; dear friends Steve Reed and Cindy Glass; and beloved Golden Retriever Mountain Jack.
