Judith Ann Keener, 71, of Maugansville, Maryland, passed from this life at home on Wednesday, July 24, 2019, after a valiant year long fight with liver cancer.
Born March 09, 1948 in Coronado, California. She was the daughter of the late Charles Robert and Margaret Ann Hinman of Chula Vista, California. She was deeply loved and will be missed by many.
She was employed in Hagerstown, Maryland at Colton Manor Nursing Home, Digbys Products, Dolphin/Jockos Tavern, and retired from Books & Things after 20+ years, during which she accumulated many books, movies, knick-knacks and holiday decor.
She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was Treasurer and Secretary of the Mercersburg Post 6241 and Secretary of the Greencastle Post 6319. Twice District 21 President of Franklin, Adams and York Counties of Pennsylvania. Numerous Chairperson in the State of PA and District Auxiliary. She had a passion for helping the veterans and service men and women of the VFW, especially with raising money for the diabetes awareness walks. She enjoyed walking in parades with her great granddaughter and helping with the childrens Christmas party. She was a loving and doting wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She had a zeal for decorating and cooking for all seasons and holidays. Her house was always open, full of love, food and conversation. She loved to travel and was a great navigator.
She is survived by her dear husband of 37 years Lynn A. Keener, of Maugansville, MD; daughter Carolyn L. Hills-Gatrell and husband David of Hancock, MD; son Thomas M. Hills of Waynesboro, PA; and son John R. Hills and wife Patricia of Waynesboro, PA.; grandchildren: Tabatha A. S. (McGowan) Murray and husband Ryan; Sarah E. Hills, Olivia L. J. Hills, Michael J. Hills, Bethany D. M. Rosier, Tayler A. Hills, Zachary C. Wolfe and wife Julia, David J. Hills, Rachel A. Hills, Jessica H. Hills, David L. Gatrell, Jr., and Dusty L. Gatrell; great grandchildren: Breanna Robison, Alexus Miner, Sophie Gatrell, Declan and Violet Murray; siblings and families: brother David Hinman and wife Barbara of Washington D.C. with nephew Alexander; brother Charles Hinman and wife Keiko of Honolulu, HI with nephew Chaz; sister Betty (BJ) Havey of Bonita, CA with nephew David; sister-in-law Adrena Shepherd of Keedysville, MD; brother-in-law Paul Keener and wife Elaine, of Maugansville, MD with niece Tammy Keener and husband Chris and children; brother-in-law David Keener and wife Nancy of Maugansville, MD with nephew Mark Staley and wife Kim and children, plus niece Kristen Pinheiro and husband Petronio.
Preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Christopher M.T. Bell.
Family will receive friends on Monday, July 29th from 6 pm to 8 pm at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Avenue, Hagerstown. Funeral Services and reception will be held on Tuesday, July 30th from 1 pm to 4 pm.
