Kevin L. Spessard, Sr.

Kevin L. Spessard Sr., 74, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 29, 1936, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Victor Roy and Ruth Violet (Coldsmith) Spessard.
Kevin was a 1954 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was employed by Western Maryland-CSX Railroad, retiring after 42 years of service in 1997.
He was a 50-year member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown; the We-Brothers Sunday School Class, and he served numerous years as chairman of the Trustee Board, serving on the Finance Committee, Investment Committee, Menâ??s Choir, and the Security Team of the church. Kevin was also a member of Elks Lodge 378, American Legion Post 42, North American Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by two sons, Kevin â??Skipâ? L. Spessard Jr. and wife, Betty, of Hagerstown, and Brian K. Spessard and wife, Vicki, of Carlisle, Pa.; a sister, Patricia Witmer of LaVale, Md.; four grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, James E. Spessard; and a brother, Leon Spessard.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Clark D. Carr officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
