Larry Spencer Bailey

Larry Spencer Bailey, 78, of Mercersburg, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 26, 1939 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Elmer Spencer and Chessie Aldean (Blevins) Bailey.

He was a 1957 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.

He was a veteran of the US Army.

Larry was a proud son of Hagerstown making the city his home for the most of his life. He worked for the City of Hagerstown for 17 years, before retirement in 2000. He had previously worked for the Western Maryland Railroad and Pangborn.

For the past 15 years Larry lived in Mercersburg and traveled to Florida during the winter months. Larry spent countless happy hours fishing and enjoyed logging thousands of miles hiking and biking through the country's national parks and rails to trails.

To Larry, there were no strangers; only friends he hadn't met yet.

Larry is survived by his longtime companion, Patsy Musser of Mercersburg; her sons, Craig Musser and Curtis Musser; two grandsons, Joshua Musser and Matthew Musser; a sister, Lana Pittenger and husband Fred; an aunt, Betty Payne; and four nieces and nephew, Kimberly Mills, Kelli Byers, Kristin Hines, and Matthew Hines.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service and again following for a reception at the funeral home.
