Hagerstown, MD
Laura May (Gearhart) Griffith

Laura May (Gearhart) Griffith, passed from this life to her heavenly reward on Thursday, February 13, 2014. She was the daughter of the late Jacob Andrew and Isa May (Fohner) Gearhart. She was preceded in death by husband Luther; sisters, Margaret, Mary; and a brother, William J. Gearhart. She was also preceded in death by a son, James Jacob Barnhart, who died while serving his country in the United States Marine Corp.

Laura is survived by three sons, Roy L. Barnhart of Parksville, MD., Arthur E. Barnhart of St. Thomas, PA, Josephus C. Fritz of California; a daughter, Laura Patricia Frances of Hagerstown; four grandchildren, Beth, Cody, Julie, James; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She worked for L'aiglon for ten years and for Dorbee Mfg. (Westbury Fashions) for twenty years in the garment industry, from which she retired.

She resided at Potomac Towers in Hagerstown, preferring to be as independent as possible. She was loved by many of the residents there and enjoyed their company, kindness and thoughtfulness in her years residing there. She enjoyed the company of Sharon, who came in once a week to clean for her. She was especially fond of Bobbi, from social services, who aided her in many ways and also took her out for lunches occasionally.

Laura was the last of her generation. Her search for her mother, who died when she was only a few months old, is completed. She will enjoy the reunion with her mother, father, and son and all of her brothers, sisters, and a myriad of relatives and friends who have gone before her. She takes with her the love of her children, and a multitude of friends. She was a friend of everyone she met and had the gift of remembering every one of them.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with The Rev. Dr. Kenneth J. Fizer, Jr. officiating. Friends will be received a half hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be private.

She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. God will greet her with outstretched arms and welcome her home. He will lead her to all the loved ones who have gone before her and have waited to be reunited these long years. A life that this world could never provide will be hers for eternity. Goodbye mom, we all love you and hope someday to be with you again.
