Laurie Jean Mason

January 7, 1962 — September 22, 2016

Laurie Mason, 54, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at her home.

Known to those who love her as Mi-mi, her beautiful fun-loving spirit will be carried on by her children and grandchildren. She knew grief. She was proceeded in death by her mother, her lifetime hero, Barbara Mason, who heroically sacrificed her life to save her children. She is also preceded in death by her father, Morris Mason.

Laurie was a graduate of South Hagerstown High School. After several years of college, Laurie took up work in the Public Housing field. Laurie began her career at Washington County Housing Authority and she served as the executive director of the Frostburg Housing Authority for 25 years. Laurie loved her job and helping the people she served. She was loved.

Laurie was a wonderful mother to her dear children, two daughters, Chrissy Munson and husband Mark, Melissa Montgomery; son, Nathan Mason; and grandchildren, Katelynn and Nevaeh. Laurie was a wonderful sister and brought a smile to every life she touched. Laurie leaves behind siblings, Kathy Stenger, Doug Mason, Georgia Mason and Karen Mason, her caregiver to the end. She is also survived by her five friends to the end, Patricia LeCompte, Marlene Mason, Debbie Sagi, Barb Hepburn, and Janet Moats. Laurie will be missed by her dog, Chica.

She enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, cooking and gardening with her pets. She is home. The minute she took her last breath here, we find comfort in knowing she took her first breath in heaven, free from the long battle she fought with cancer.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor John O'Rorke officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will also receive friends at Hagerstown City Park, following the burial, for fellowship and refreshments at 12 noon.

Friends will be received from 7-9pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
