Leonard Jay Davis

Leonard Jay "Buck" Davis, 82, of Hagerstown, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at Coffman Nursing Home.

Born March 13, 1928, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Roy Elmer and Zola Frances (Bitner) Davis.

Leonard was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War.

He was a member of Williamsport United Methodist Church.

He retired after 24 years of service as a correctional officer for the State of Maryland. He also worked for Hagerstown Paint and Glass.

Buck is survived by his loving wife, Naomi Jessie (Mellott) Davis; two sons, Greg Davis of England and Ronald Davis of Salisbury, Md.; three sisters, Freda Nunamaker and June Andrews, both of Hagerstown, and Mary Jane Malott of Williamsport; three brothers, Carl Davis of Dawsonville, Ga., and Daniel Davis and Roy Davis Jr., both of Hagerstown; and four grandsons.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Roger Davis, W.W. "Bill" Davis and two infants.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Susan Boehl officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour before the service at the funeral home.
