Luther Benjamin Sweigert

Luther Benjamin Sweigert, 93, of Hagerstown, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at Homewood of Williamsport.

Born December 11, 1920 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Luther Barnabas and Mary Jane (Wagner) Sweigert.

Luther was a 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He retired in 1982 after 43 years of service at Pangborn in Hagerstown.

He was a former charter member of Church of the Holy Trinity in Halfway and a current member of First Christian Church, where he served as an elder. Luther was the assistant Scout Master for 6 years of Troop No. 16, that was sponsored by Zion Reformed Church. Luther had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and planting flowers.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Ardella May (McKee) Sweigert, who passed away on Aug. 11, 2013; a sister, Phyllis Maxine Emmert; and a brother, Robert W. Sweigert.

He is survived by two daughters, Judith M. Wagner and husband C. Richard of South Boston, VA., Nancy J. Nally and husband Paul Z., Jr. of Hagerstown; two granddaughters, Rebecca Catherine Simmerman and husband Timothy, Sara Elizabeth Dorsey and husband Jeremy; a great-grandson, Timothy James "TJ" Simmerman; nieces; nephews; and several extended family members.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Steven L. Johns-Boehme officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial at the funeral home.

Friends will be received from 6-8 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
