Mabel Louise (Palmer) McCleaf

Mabel Louise (Palmer) McCleaf, 96, of Hagerstown, passed away, on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Coffman Nursing Home.

Born January 23, 1918, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Maude A. (Gabe) Palmer.

Mabel was a member of First Christian Church in Hagerstown. She enjoyed listening to the radio and going to ball games. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother and a great cook.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert H. McCleaf, Sr., who died in 1997; two brothers; and five sisters.

Mabel is survived by a son, Robert H. McCleaf, Jr. and wife Joan of Boonsboro; two daughters, Doris L. Wisler of Hagerstown, Joyce E. Kephart and husband Donald of Virginia Beach; a son, Steven L. McCleaf and wife Lisbeth of Cape Coral, FL.; a sister, Catherine Gilbert of Hagerstown; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at First Christian Church, 1345 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Steven L. Johns-Boehme officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church.
