Major Kenneth Merl Schultz

February 14, 1946 — March 6, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Major Kenneth Merl Schultz announces his passing, on March 6, 2018 at the age of 72 years.

Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Barbara and his daughters, LisaMarie Schultz of Waynesboro and Dr. Trisha Pellegrino and husband Kyle of Huntingtown, MD. Ken will be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren Ryan, William, Emma and Joshua Pellegrino, by his brothers, George Schultz and wife Patricia of South Lake Tahoe, CA and Rex Povenmire and wife Jane of Poulsbo, WA, and by his sister-in-law Marlene Markussen of Hoopa, CA. Ken will also be sadly missed by his cousin who was like a little sister Kathy Carsen of Graham, WA and loving nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Ken was born on February 14, 1946 in Roseburg, OR to George Schultz and Frances (Watts) Povenmire.

He graduated from Ukiah High School in 1964 and from Mount Saint Marys University in 1974 with a degree in Mathematics.

In 1966 he married Barbara Williams in Eureka, CA, his lifelong love and best friend.

Major Schultz served in the United States Air Force for 25 years, retiring from his last assignment to the Joint Chiefs of Staff as Communications Officer for Operations Team Two of the National Military Command Center in 1992. He then went on to work as a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton in Washington DC for 9 years.

Accomplished at electronics and computing, he was a generous individual who loved fixing and creating electronic devices.

In 1979 he created a telephone amplifier for a 12 year old hearing impaired girl in his community of San Angelo Texas and years later while living in Hagerstown he developed the On Track Disk Drive Alignment System and helped start the Hagerstown Users Group, a computer club, in the 1980s.

He enjoyed genealogy research, traveling and being with his family.

Funeral services will be private and held at a later date.
