Margaret Alegra Anthony, 84, of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Meritus Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born in Hagerstown, on March 20, 1933. She was the daughter of the late Emma Rebecca (Smith) and George F. King. In addition to her parents, Margaret is preceded in death by her sister, Doris Hoar.

Margaret was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren.

She was a food manager for several businesses, including the S.S. Kresge Co. and McCroy's.


Margaret is survived by her loving husband Harry Charles Anthony; one son, David H. Anthony and wife Debra; one daughter, Theresa Messer and husband Larry; 4 grandchildren, Brent Anthony and wife Elizabeth, Allison Appenzellar and husband Michael, Scott Anthony, and Aaron Messer; and 5 great grandchildren, Taylor Appenzellar, Gage Appenzellar, Peyton Appenzellar, Braxton Anthony and Baxter Anthony; and many nieces and nephews.


A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017 at Hagerstown Church of the Brethren 15 S Mulberry St. Hagerstown, MD 21740 with Audrey and Tim Hollenberg-Duffey officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, on Sunday the 10th, at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Inc. 1601 Pennsylvania Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Margaret's name to Breast Cancer Awareness of Cumberland Valley, 12916 Conamar Dr. Suite 201, Hagerstown, MD 21742 or to Hagerstown Church of the Brethren 15 S. Mulberry St. Hagerstown, MD 21740.
