Marjorie Spanninger Peters, 86, of Hagerstown, passed away, Saturday, May 9, 2020, peacefully and comfortably at her home surrounded by her family.

Born July 14, 1933 in Blooming Glen, Pennsylvania she was the daughter of the late, Hilton Leroy and Edna (Angeny) Spanninger. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Kenneth Richard Peters in September of 2017; two brothers, Feryl Spanninger and wife, Nancy, Hilton Leroy Spanninger; two brother in laws, Elwood Rush and James Moyer

Mrs. Peters retired as an administrator for the Washington County Historical Society.

She was a dedicated member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she was a lay reader, Board member at the Washington County Rural Heritage Museum, founding member of Y-Me of Washington County, now Breast Cancer Awareness of Cumberland Valley where she received awards from Community of Hope in 1994 and a certificate from Gov. Glendenning in 1997. Mrs. Peters had served on several committees including Illumination of Antietam Battlefield, National Pike Festival and Reach to Recovery for ACS. She also received other honors including a resolution from the Senate of Maryland for her work at the Historical Society; Women on the move from the Herald-Mail in 1992, Life of Leadership from WATT and was featured in Who's Who's in America-2000 Millennium Edition.

Her hobbies included, gardening, volunteering, reading and crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Peters is survived by two daughters, Megan Taylor (Mike) of Arvada, Co. and Shannon Shadrach (Stephen) of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Jessica Hunt (Sean), Tyler Shadrach (fiancee, Sandra) and Stephanie Taylor; three great grandchildren, Brayden James Hunt, Holden Kenneth Hunt and Nora Rose Hunt; two sisters, Shirley Rush of Sellersville, Pa, and Charlotte Moyer of Blooming Glen, Pa.; one brother, John Spanninger (Florence) of DeLand, Fla.; many nieces and nephews and amazing neighbors and friends that loved her like family.

Mrs. Peters always called and had her children and grandchildren call when they got home " Be sure to call me when you get home. I want to know you arrived safely," Does that sound familiar? I'm sure it does. Having said, "Farewell," to dear ones-committing them to the keeping of the Lord-we eagerly await word from them that will assure us they have arrived at their intended destination. What a welcome thing it is then, when the telephone rings and a reassuring voice exclaims, "We're home-safe and sound!"

Due to Covid19 a private graveside service will be held. A celebration of life will take place on a date to be determined.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's name to Breast Cancer Awareness of Cumberland Valley, Grace United Methodist Church or to the Washington County Rural Heritage Museum.
