Martha Elizabeth Betsy Martin

Martha Elizabeth "Betsy" Martin, 87, of Hagerstown and Towson, Maryland, passed away, Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at Homewood of Williamsport.

Born October 2, 1930 in Hagerstown she was the daughter of the late, James V. and Katharine (Myers) Cannen.

Mrs. Martin was a 1948 graduate of Hagerstown High School and received a BA degree in Psychology and Early Childhood Education from Hood College in 1952.

She was a preschool teacher with the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Towson.

Mrs. Martin was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Boonsboro, Md.

Previously when in the Towson area she had been an Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Altar Guild at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, Lutherville.. She also was a teacher of English to speakers of other languages and was active in the Meals on Wheels Program.

She enjoyed, traveling, music,needlepoint, reading and cooking.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, John A. "Jack" Martin and one son, James C. "Jim" Martin of Gaithersburg, Md.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18313 Lappans Rd., Boonsboro, Md. 21713 with Rev. Anne O. Weatherholt officiating.

Friends will be received at the church, one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Betsy's name to Homewood Foundation Inc., P.O.Box 250, Williamsport MD 21795 or to St. Mark's Episcopal Church, address above.
