Martha Louise Thornton

Martha Louise Thornton, 98, of Hagerstown, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013.
A longtime resident of Homewood Retirement Village, Louise spent her final days at Williamsport Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 28, 1915, in Luray, Va., she was the daughter of the late Polk and Mayme Shenk.
She graduated from Hagerstown High School with the class of 1933 and was a homemaker.
Louise loved playing bridge with her many friends and was a former 50-year member of The Women's Club.
She especially enjoyed gardening and was a member of Cross Roads Garden Club, and Town and Country Garden Club. She was a former member of Washington County Hospital Auxiliary and Fountain Head Country Club.
She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Frederick L. Thornton, also at Homewood; her son, Frederick C. Thornton and wife, Allison; and two granddaughters, Sarah and Christina.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
A family graveside service was held Saturday, May 11, 2013. Inurnment was at Rest Haven Cemetery.
