Mary Elizabeth Vanderlyn

Mary Elizabeth "Bettie" Vanderlyn, 83, of Hagerstown, passed away, Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born January 13, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late, John Maas and Mary Mitchell. In addition to her parents she also was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Vanderlyn and an infant daughter, Linda Vanderlyn.

In addition to being a homemaker, she also worked as a manager for Richards World of Travel and as a manager for the Bulldog Federal Credit Union, both of Hagerstown.

Mrs. Vanderlyn was a very colorful person, remembered by her family as a firecracker. She was a volunteer for the Aids Service Agency of Raliegh NC, a member of a square dancing group, The Circle City Squares. She loved quilting, baking, gardening and traveling belonging to the Bay Area Bounders of America.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, Robert D. "Bob" Vanderlyn; one daughter, Sue Cimino, of Legana, Tasmania, Australia; one son, Barry Vanderlyn (Missy) of Greencastle; one brother, John Maas (Ann) of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Tracey Weaver (Cory Lescalleet) and Amber Reasner (Chase); four great grandchildren, Chloe, Emma, Mason and Keegan and her pet fat cat Colby.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 3:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with the Rev. Mark C. Mooney officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Inurnment will be private in Rest Haven Cemetery.

A reception will follow the memorial service.
