Melvin Earl Daugherty, 85, of Boonsboro, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at his home.
Born January 25, 1931 in Waynesboro, PA., he was the son of the late Milton E. and Mary E. (Hykes) Daugherty.
Melvin served in the United States Navy during the Korean conflict.
He retired as a delivery driver. Melvin was a member of Hagerstown Church of Christ and the American Legion Post No. 10 in Boonsboro. He enjoyed bowling, reading, and gardening. Melvin was a baseball fan and enjoyed rooting for the Orioles.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 32 years, Jerina Harlene (Harris) Daugherty; five children, Natasha Daugherty, Erica Daugherty, James Daugherty and wife Diane, Galen Daugherty, Sharon Stottlemyer and husband Ralph; five grandchildren, Jacob and Drew Daugherty, Kaitlyn Daugherty, Galen Daugherty, Jr., Michelle Merritt; a great-grandson, Caleb Haywood; and two sisters, Dorothy Talhelm, Joyce Welling, her husband Walt, and their sons.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
