Michael Alan Nemir

April 23, 1943 — September 14, 2012

On Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, Dr. Michael Alan Nemir passed away.

Dr. Nemir was the beloved father of three daughters, MaryLou Hauver, Christina Nemir and Andrea Nemir, and is survived by four siblings. He also is survived by his long-term companion, Diane Estep; and her grandson, Michael.

Dr. Nemir practiced pediatrics in Hagerstown with Dr. Ron Keyser and Dr. Albert Strauss from 1977 to 1993, when he was forced to retire after a car accident.

He will be remembered for his great devotion to and fine care of his patients.

Born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Arlington, Va., Dr. Nemir was a lifelong Episcopalian who graduated from St. Stephen's School. He then attended Davidson College, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and the soccer team. He received an M.S. degree from American University and an M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in 1971.

Dr. Nemir served in the U.S. Army in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Gifted with a wonderful sense of humor, Dr. Nemir enjoyed golf, bridge and gardening. He was an accomplished pianist who loved both classical and contemporary music. He was an excellent photographer and discovered his gift for oil painting later in life.

Most of all, he was devoted to his family, both immediate and extended.

Friends are invited to Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, for a visitation Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. and a funeral service Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church on Prospect Street in Hagerstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children's Tumor Foundation (www.ctf.org). If donating, please indicate "In honor of Michael Nemir." This was a very personal cause for him because he not only was an advocate for all children, but watched his daughter suffer from the effects of Neurofibromatosis Type 2 (NF2).
