Mildred "Millie" Rose Marriner

Mildred “Millie” Rose Marriner, 94, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at
Doey’s (Hospice) House in Hagerstown, MD.

Millie Marriner was born on April 25, 1926 in Baltimore, MD to the late William and
Teresa Salchunas. Proceeding her in death were Millie’s six siblings; Margaret, George,
Tony, Libby, Teresa and Edna. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Alan Aubrey Marriner, who passed away in 2009.
Alan and Millie were married in June 1951.

She is survived by her children Leslie Shrader of Hagerstown, MD, Alan Marriner and
wife Kelly Owen of Bellingham, WA and Sean Marriner and his wife Tammy of
Hagerstown, MD, her grandchildren; Carey Dagliano of Seattle, WA, Amy Dagliano and
her husband, Eric Neuman of Sterling, VA, Sean Marriner Jr. and his wife Lauren
Marriner of Severna Park, MD, Dylan Marriner and wife Cecila Deng of Seattle, WA,
Lauren Marriner and fiancé Andrew Dean of Baltimore, MD, Geordie Marriner and
fiancé Jenna Koblentz of San Francisco, CA and Josie Marriner of Bellingham, WA. She
is also survived by four great grandchildren; Harrison and Sydney Holmes, Audrey
Neuman, Elijiah Marriner and a new baby boy on the way in December.

Millie graduated high school early in 1943 from Western High School in Baltimore, MD.
She continued her education at Goucher College where she earned a Bachelor’s of
Science in Chemistry. Following her graduation Millie continued her work in chemistry at
the National Institute of Health in the Division of Physiology and Gerontology.

Millie was an active and giving member of the community. She worked as a reference
librarian at Washington County Public Library and worked in a local elementary school
as a volunteer art teacher.

Even from a young age Millie loved art and travel. She loved painting, pen and ink,
sculpting, silk screening, and pottery. Her artwork is displayed throughout her home and
her family’s homes. Her creativity also extended to her cooking, gardening, and sewing.
She traveled all over Europe and the United States with her husband Alan
photographing architecture and landscapes as subjects for future paintings.
Millie lived her life full of love and kindness and will be sorely missed by all who knew
her. She will be remembered for her love of family, the arts, ballet, animals, flowers,
good food, and discount shopping.

The family has remembered her life together and look forward to celebrating her life with
members of the community next year. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Doey’s House in Hagerstown, MD. They would also like to thank the many special caregivers that so lovingly helped Millie stay comfortable in her home the past few years.
