Olen Collis Brake

Olen Collis Brake, Sr., 95, of Williamsport, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Homewood at Williamsport.

Born Dec. 10, 1916, in Escambia County, Ala., he was the son of the late Alton Brake and Lizzy (Barnecastle) Adams.

He was a member of the Grand Masonic Lodge of Alabama.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Louise â??Jinnyâ? (Martin) Brake, who died on Nov. 8, 2010, and a sister, Dora Lambert, of Mobile, Ala.

He retired from the U.S. Air Forceafter a combined 30 years and 6 months of service in the U.S. Army and the Air Force. He began his service in the horse cavalry until it was disbanded. In World War II he was a ranger and served in three campaigns and earned a Bronze Star during The Battle of the Bulge.

He was also retired as a correctional officer with the state of Maryland.

Olen is survived by two daughters, Marjorie A. Brake of Hagerstown and Sylvia R. Brake of Catonsville; a son, Olen C. Brake Jr. of Hagerstown; three grandchildren, Jessica B. O'Conner and husband, Dan, Adam B. Mallonee and wife, Taryn, and Dr. Amanda B. Mallonee M.D.; and two twin great-grandchildren, Claire Virginia and Colin Zane O'Conner.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Jeff Shull officiating. Interment will follow.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel.
