Rachel Jane Souders

Rachel Jane Souders, 96,of Boonsboro, passed away, Thursday, June 26, 2014, surrounded by her loving family, at Coffman Nursing Home, Hagerstown.
Born October 6, 1917 in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James Luther and Mary Hyinthia (Robinson) Rowland. In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Joseph Ralph Souders; a son, Joseph J. Souders; an infant daughter, Mary Hyinthia Souders; three sisters: Irene Snyder, Alta Troxell and Anna Mary Rowland, infant; five brothers: Robert Rowland, James Rowland, John Rowland, George Rowland, (infant) and Harvey Blake; and a son in law, Ellsworth G. Needy; and a great grandson, Mark Needy.
Mrs. Souders was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to being a homemaker and a pastor's wife, she was devoted to her family and to her church. She taught Sunday school and vacation bible school and volunteered at the Mt. Hope Prison Ministry.
She was a member of the Calvary Temple Church, Williamsport.
She is survived by three daughters: Anna Louise Needy of Hagerstown; Betty Jane Schwarz and husband Louis of St. Louis Missouri; and Janice Lorraine Wilt and husband, Michael W. of Boonsboro, Maryland; seven grandchildren: Ivan Needy, Wayne Needy, Jeff Souders, John Souders, Jonathan Schwarz, Julie Schwarz (Edelson) and Joshua Wilt; numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; daughter in law, Marie A. Souders of Hagerstown; numerous nieces and nephews, with special acknowledgment given to Doris Elliott for the loving care given to her aunt Rachel.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 12:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Rev. Robert V. Robinson officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday one hour prior to services.
Memorial contributions may be made in Rachel's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
