Raymond C. (Scotty) Wine, 101, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 31, 2021. He was born in Hagerstown, MD on July 21, 1920, the son of John S. and Claudia K. Wine. He married Angeline Tenore in 1946, with whom he recently celebrated 75 years of marriage.

He was a WWII veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1942 -1945. He continued his service associations through memberships in the American Legion, Morris Frock Post #42 and the Washington County Amvets. He spent his entire employed career with the Fairchild Aircraft Corporation, retiring after 43 years of service.

Scotty’s true passion was his love for God, and he enjoyed sharing favorite scripture verses with everyone with whom he came in contact. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church. In his leisure time he was an avid golfer, spending many hours on the links. He was a member of Beaver Creek Country Club, and also enjoyed playing at Hagerstown Municipal and Black Rock Golf Courses. He played actively until the age of 95. He recorded two hole-in-ones during his golfing career. He also enjoyed billiards. His “claim to fame” was participating in a Naval exhibition match against the reigning World Champion Andrew Ponzi in 1942, where he ran 82 balls before falling to defeat! Additionally, while in the Navy, Scotty learned to play the harmonica and from that point on, loved entertaining friends and family with his musical selections

Scotty was preceded in death by six sisters: Anna Dickens, Emma Johnson, Virginia Unseld, Peggy Weaver, Jessie Manick, and Betty Grimm; and two brothers: James and Walter Wine. His most recent and most difficult loss was his cherished wife Angeline Tenore Wine on October 26, 2021.
Scotty is survived by his son David (Louise) Wine of Hagerstown; granddaughter Andrea Wine (Jim Hodges) of Oakton, VA; granddaughter Allison Wine of Wilmington, NC; and grandson Alex Wine of Towson, MD. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at the Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD on Saturday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. A Military Interment will follow the service.
Family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service.
