Rev. James F. Hodges Jr. was born April 1, 1925 in Danville, Va. He was The son of James F. Hodges Sr. & Lena (Tucker) Hodges who preceded him in death. He was the oldest of six children, all of whom preceded him in death: Frances (Hodges) Wilson, Vernon Hodgers, JC (Joseph) Hodges, Geraldine (Hodges) Ray & David Hodges.
He was married to Mary Jane (Tiday) Hodges 76 years in May.
He was the father of Betina (Betty) Jane (Hodges) Beard (husband James Beard) of Mercersburg, Pa. & Robert (Bob) Hodges (wife Anne Ross Hodges) of Key Colony Beach, FL, grandfather of Donald Beard, ( wife Melanie Keyser Beard), Mercersburg, Pa., Julie (Beard) Wilson (husband Kevin Wilson) of Lavale, MD, Nicholas Hodges (wife, Miranda Justice Hodges)of Mercersburg, PA., Tanya (Hodges) Ross, (husband William (Bill) Ross of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Great Grandchildren, James Beard, Erin Salahov (husband Andrey Salahov), Jaedyn Wilson, Kadence Wilson, Stewart Ross & Anne Ross, Great-Great Grandchildren, Justice Beard, Emmitt Beard, Paxton Salahov, & Adeline Salahov.
He was a pastor, preacher, and evangelist since he was 14 years old. He graduated from High School in Danville & was a math wiz. He and his wife traveled as evangelists & sang together, while he played the guitar, in every state from Michigan to Florida. He preached & pastored until 10 years ago.
In his early years, he worked the fields in Virgina, worked at Bedford Springs Hotel during WWII, worked at Fairchild in Hagerstown and Textile Machines in Reading, PA, was a business owner & home builder. He loved to talk about Jesus. When he couldn’t preach for the last 10 years, he would sit at McDonald’s & write sermons & tell people about Jesus. He will be missed by many!
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at 12:00 P.M. at New Life Christian Church, 12031 Hopewell Rd., Hagerstown with Pastor Ken Harris officiating.
Friends will be received at the church 1 hour prior to the service from 11:00 A.M 12:00 noon. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
