Richard Eugene Snyder, Sr.
July 12, 1929 — January 3, 2016
Richard Eugene "Dick" Snyder, 86, of Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center.
Born July 12, 1929 in Shippensburg, PA., he was the son of the late Jacob and Helen (Rudisill) Snyder.
Dick was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he received the Army of Occupational Medal for his service performed in Japan.
Another proud moment for Dick was his dedication to being a Scout Master. His troop was the biggest in the country! At one time, he worked for the ambulance company in Havre de Grace, MD.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Delores M. (Forbes) Snyder; two sons, Richard E. Snyder, Jr., and wife Iraine of Abingdon, MD, Ralph E. Snyder and wife Deborah of Eldersburg, MD.; a brother, Harold Snyder and wife Jean of Hagerstown; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00pm on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the Maryland State Honor Guard; Joint Veterans Council; and the Marine Corp. League of Hagerstown.
Friends will be received Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dick's name to the Veterans Inc., 69 Grove St., Worcester, MA 01605.
