Richard Henry Large

January 16, 1932 — February 3, 2015

Richard Henry Large, 83, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at his home while surrounded by his loving family.

Born January 16, 1932 in Barberton, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Henry Large and the late Mary Ann Galliher. Richard was also preceded in death by his step father, Reno S. Powell, Sr. and his step mother, Ethel S. Large.

Richard was a veteran of the United States Army from 1949-1952, serving with the 919th Engineer Co., SCARWAF (Special Catagory Army Reassigned With Air Force) Okinawa. Richard received the OCC medal of Japan and the Korean Service Medal.

Richard retired from Mack Truck in 1986 as a general supervisor of maintenance. After retirement, he stayed with the same company as a consultant. Prior to his career with Mack Truck, he worked for Fairchild Industries and the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Cumberland, MD.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and relaxing in his cabin in West Virginia.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Beverly Ann (Pague) Large; three daughters, Kathy D. Rhodes, Kimberly A. Selfridge and husband Scott all of Hagerstown; Selina M. Grogg and husband David of Martinsburg, WV; 8 grandchildren, Larry M. Hill, Jr., Toby S. Hill, Erica R. Brown, Jessica N. Embly, Jennifer R. Embly, Victoria A. Selfridge, Jordan A. Grogg, S. Kyle Grogg; and 11 great-grandchildren.


A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00am on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Pastor Brad Nigh officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Veterans Service Organization.

Friends will be received from 7-9pm at the funeral home on Friday.
