Richard John Gossard

June 15, 1933 — August 23, 2013

Richard John Gossard, Sr., 80, of Maugansville, went to be with the lord, Friday, August 23rd, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 15, 1933 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Earl F. Sr. and Estella Irene (Benchoff) Gossard.

Richard served in the Korean War where he earned three bronze stars and a meritourious medal.

He was raised at Milton Wright Memorial Home in Kauffman Station, PA.

Richard was a member of Zion Assembly of God in Maugansville and had worked at Brants Cabinet Works.

He is survived by his brother Rev. Donald Gossard of Hagerstown; one sister, Bonnie Deyo of Richmond, Ky; one son Richard John Gossard, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Hagerstown; three daughters, Barbara Chaney and husband Elmer of Rocelle, GA, Ruth Shawyer and husband Garie, Sr. of Cavetown, Nancy Barnhart and husband Bobby, Sr. of Maugansville as well as seventeen grand children and twenty five great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary V. (May) Gossard whom he married on Feburary 8th, 1956; two daughters, Carol Jordan and Elizabeth Gossard; five brothers, Earl F. Sr., Melvin , George , Paul , and Thomas Gossard; and two sisters, Ruth Rosenbury and Nellie Fill.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Pastor Stewart Torres and Rev. Donald R. Gossard, Sr. officating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County.
