Richard Lee Anthony

August 21, 1937 — July 31, 2020

Richard L. Anthony Sr. went to be with his Lord on Friday, July 31, 2020 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born on August 21, 1937 to the late Thomas Anthony Sr. and Clara Elizabeth (Shank) Anthony.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise; daughter Deb Sword husband Terry of Forest Hill, MD; two sons, Rick wife Sandy of Hagerstown, MD and Steve of Falling Waters, WV. Six grandchildren, Krista Kelley husband Brian; Stephanie Bowers husband Preston; Renee Lantz husband Brian; Brandon Sword wife Meg; Janel Heckman husband Jamie; Brooke Hagerman husband Aaron. He also had nine great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by one brother, Thomas Jr. wife Yvonne of Hagerstown, MD; two sisters, Joanne Harshman of Hagerstown, MD and Janet Rollins husband Keith of Winterville, NC; and sister-in-law Rose Anthony of Chambersburg, PA.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Charles, and John and one brother-in-law Ronald Harshman.

He was a charter member of Maranatha Brethren Church, serving his Lord as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Bus Director, and known to the children (and some adults too!) as the “Candyman!” He also served at Mount Hope Prison Ministry, Child Evangelism Fellowship, and was a Gideon.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 2:00pm at Maranatha Brethren Church, 19835 Scott Hill Drive, Hagerstown MD. Due to Covid-19 restrictions there will be no viewing prior to the service. A graveside service will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery for those who wish to attend.
