Richard Mooers

January 27, 1922 — July 9, 2013

Richard Clive Mooers, 91, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Horta, Azores to Horatio and Marguerite Mooers on January 27, 1922, where his father was stationed as the U.S. Consulate General.
Richard was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII, where he received the Bronze Star and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal while stationed on Mindoro Island.
He was employed by multiple corporations as a sales executive.
Richard was an active member of Zion Reformed United Church of Christ in Hagerstown and the Masonic Lodge in Hagerstown. He had a great passion for building and flying radio controlled airplanes, astronomy and playing golf.
He is survived by his loving wife of 9 years, Laura Bridget Hamlin; four children, Michael T. Mooers and wife Carol of Hagerstown, James R. Mooers and wife Kristen of Greencastle, Steven C. Mooers and wife Kelli of Clear Spring, Susan E. Delosier and husband Tony of Hagerstown; 12 grandchildren, Christopher M. Mooers, Chelby M. Taylor, Jamie L. Jackson, Brandie L. Mooers-Burchard, Morgan E. Heintzelman, Hannah E. Mooers, Madison B. Cooper, Mackenzie R. Mooers, Max R., Rowan R., Finn E. and Gia L. Delosier and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Schuster Mooers and a brother, John Warren Mooers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Zion Reformed United Church of Christ, 201 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, with the Reverend Kevin Munroe officiating.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 7-9pm at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel (we were planning to use a regular reception room, not the Chapel. is this a generic term or should it say Rest Haven Funeral Home?), 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.
