Richard Rick Good

October 24, 1948 — July 16, 2017

Richard "Rick" Good, a career Washington County Deputy Sheriff and military veteran who served in West Germany, died suddenly, Sunday, July 16, at his home in Hagerstown. He was 68 years old.
Richard was loyal and giving to all who knew him and will be missed dearly by his friends and family.
Richard Howard Good was born Oct. 24, 1948 at Providence Hospital in Washington D.C., to Audrey Enders of Hagerstown and the late Gene Good of Alabama.
The family moved to Hagerstown in 1960 and Rick graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1966. Rick enlisted in the U.S. Army the following year and served until 1971. During that time, he rose to the rank of Sergeant, E-5 and served as a military police officer with the Armys Criminal Investigation Division in West Germany.
After his discharge, Rick returned to Hagerstown and worked for Sears department store. His patriotism and love of country was inspired by his military service and he never gave up his interest in law enforcement and service to others. In 1976, he joined the Washington County Sheriffs Department, where he had a distinguished career.
During that time, he continued to pursue his interest in law enforcement academically. He graduated from Hagerstown Community College in 1979 with an Associate of Arts degree in the administration of justice.
In 1986, he was one of only 200 officers from 48 states and 8 countries to be selected to attend special training at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. The 11-week training course focused on management, education, communication, law, physical training and behavioral and forensic sciences. He graduated the program and received a diploma for successfully completed the executive level training.
He retired from the sheriffs department in 1996 with the rank of Sergeant. Afterward, he worked as an investigator for the State of Maryland and currently as a Circuit Court Bailiff for
The Honorable Judge Mark Boyer of Washington County Maryland.
Rick was a member of both the local and national chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and had been a member of the Masons since 1973. He was also a member of American Legion Post 0042.
Rick is survived by his mother Audrey Enders, brother Charles Enders and his wife Tina Enders of Hagerstown and a half-sister Gina Good of Manchester, N.H. He is also survived by his loving and loyal cat PC.
Services will be held Saturday, July 22, at Rest Haven Cemetery, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD. The viewing will begin at 4 p.m. with light refreshments and the service will start at 6 p.m. A Private Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the local Fraternal Order of Police or your local Humane Society.
