Robert Glen Robinson, Jr., 70, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

Born on March 22, 1947, In Parkersburg, WV, he was the son of Robert Glen and Marjorie Fern (Hildebrand) Robinson, who preceded him in death.


Bob was a proud 1965 graduate of Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg, WV. He earned his Bachelor's of Science in Journalism from Ohio University, Athens, OH in 1969. He worked for various newspapers as well as the Associated Press at the Charleston, WV bureau from 1973 to 1982. He was the first correspondent for the AP assigned to cover Morgantown, WV and the surrounding area. In 1978, he was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize for his breaking story on the Willow Island cooling tower collapse, in which 51 men died-- his father being among the survivors, in St. Mary's, WV. From 1983 to 1985, he was the Deputy National Editor for the Washington Times. He then worked as editor of his hometown newspaper in Parkersburg, WV from 1985 to 1989. From 1990 to 1999, he was a reporter and editor of Market News Service in Washington, DC, mainly covering the budget and matters concerning the Federal Reserve Board. In 1999, he returned to the Washington Times as Assistant National Editor until retiring in 2000. Because of his love of the news and sharing his opinions, he returned to the newsroom at the Warren Tribune Chronicle in Warren, OH, from 2002 to 2003.


Bob loved reading, especially books on historical figures and time periods. He also enjoyed researching particular subjects and had been working on books about Blennerhassett Island and another about the Wright Brothers. He also looked forward to watching his grandchildren's sporting events and activities, and keeping in touch with family friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristina Robinson, of Hagerstown, MD; son, Dr. Peter Robinson and wife, Katherine of West Hartford, CT; son, Phillip Robinson of Hagerstown, MD; son, Paul Robinson of Raleigh, NC; five grandchildren, Jacob, Charles and Henry Pence; Morgan and Cameron Robinson; one sister, Marjorie Barnhart of Morgantown, WV; one nephew and two nieces.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 1pm at Rest Haven Funeral Home, Inc. 1601 Pennsylvania Ave Hagerstown, MD. Inurnment will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends and family will be received one hour prior to service.
