Robert â??Bobâ? Wayne Thompson, 76, of Mercersburg, Pa., passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born Feb. 9, 1936, in Altoona, Pa., he was the son of the late Reginald William and Thelma Matilda (Christian) Thompson.

Bob served six years in the U.S. Navy Reserves and two years in the U.S. Army.
He had worked as a brake and signalman for the Jersey Central Railroad. Bob also was the owner of the PT Lounge in Williamsport, Md. He retired from Certainteed Corp.
Bob was the president of the Rayscove Hunting Club, and a member of American Legion Post No. 297, United Transportation Union and the NRA.

He loved to hunt and fish, as well as teach his children and grandchildren to do the same. He loved his wife and family very much.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Barbara Helen Thompson; seven children, Sandra Sipos and husband, Christopher Grove, Elise and Donald Kline, Rick and Cindy Everett, Antionette Palmer, Steven and Paula Thompson, all of Hagerstown, Scott and Michelle Thompson of Clear Spring, Md., and Pauline Thompson of Virginia; a sister, Elaine Thompson of New Jersey; a brother, Dave Thompson and wife, Terri, of Toms River, N.J.; two cousins, JoAnn Fleming of Silver Lake, Ohio, and David Crider of North Syracuse, N.Y.; nine grandchildren, Robin and Jeremy Ritter of Winchester, Va., Ryan Sipos, Megan Everett, Lillee Everett, Kimberly Kline and Amanda Palmer, all of Hagerstown, Timothy and Hillary Kline of West Virginia, Robert Palmer of Chambersburg and Abigail Thompson of Hagerstown; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with the Rev. Glenn Yeager officiating.
Inurnment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
