Ronald Edward Jakoby, 73, of Hagerstown, died Saturday, October 5, 2013, at his home.

Born January 5, 1940, in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Edward N. and Leah Lucille (Eisenberger) Jakoby.

He was a Mack Truck retiree, a member of local Retiree Union 171 and the Mack Golden Bulldogs.

He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Hagerstown.

He served with the US Navy from 1958 to 1964, as a Naval Aviation Electronics Technician with the VR24 Transport Squadron for the 6th fleet in the Mediterranean.

He was a member of the American Legion Synepuxent Post 166 in Ocean City, Md.

He graduated from Greencastle Antrim High School with the Class of 1958.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sandra J. (Burkett) Jakoby and four sons, Charles and wife Shanon, William and wife Dawn, Benjamin and wife Michele, Jeremy and wife Cheree; thirteen grandchildren, one great grandson; two sisters, Phyllis Miller and Christine Layman.

In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by one sister, Carole Jakoby.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with the Reverend G. Stanley Steele and Reverend Stephanie S. Steele officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8th from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

Flowers are welcomed or donations to the University of Maryland System Foundation, Marlene and Stewart Greenbaum Cancer Center (Pancreatic Cancer Research), 110 S. Paca St., Baltimore, MD 21201 in Ronald's memory will be graciously accepted.
