Ronald Ordean "Pappy" DeHart, Sr., 71, of Hagerstown, passed away, Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center, surrounded by his family and friends.

Born, March 29, 1942, in Franklin County Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late, John Croft and Mary Isabelle (Gossert) DeHart.

Mr. DeHart had worked as a brakeman and painter for the Western Maryland, Chessie and B&O Railroads, he was a ferry operator at Whites Ferry in Poolsville and retired as a meat cutter for Western Sizzlin, Hagerstown.

He was a US Army veteran and had attended The Living Room Church in Martinsburg. He also was a former member of the L.O.O. Moose, Hagerstown.

He is survived by his loving wife, Debra Diann (Burker) DeHart; six children, John Ray, Sr. of Martinsburg, Melissa Gingerrick and husband Robert of Waynesboro, Ronald "Ronnie" DeHart, Jr. and his significant other, Donna Stinson of Waynesboro, Richard Carter, Sr. and wife Jennifer of Hagerstown, Brian Carter and fiancé, Brenda Wills of Hagerstown and John DeHart, II and his significant other, Carin Barry of Hagerstown; three sisters, Lois Cook of Chambersburg, Jean Haugh and Beverly Barnhart, both of Waynesboro; fifteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by his brother, William "Billy" DeHart; two grandchildren, Eddie Hull and Mason Storm Carter and by three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Pastor Kevin Green officiating.

Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown , where military honors will be accorded.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 7-9 P.M. and on Tuesday one hour prior to services.
