Russell Frederick Hillyard

Russell Frederick Hillyard, 86, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born March 4, 1927, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Ester E. (Rice) Hillyard.
In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Virginia (Pike) Hillyard, whom he married April 5, 1947; three brothers, Edward, Richard and Carl Hillyard; one sister, Madeline Fincanyon; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Marie; and his son-in-law, Albert Laface.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired in 1979, as a captain at the Maryland Correctional Institute, Hagerstown. Prior to MCI, he was employed with the Fairchild Corp.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Ellen Laface of Temple, Ga., and Lori Lynn Miller and husband, Brian, of Hagerstown; two sons, Robert Eugene Hillyard, and Steven Russell Hillyard and fiancee, Suzee Little, all of Hagerstown; four granddaughters, Amy Bruno, Whitney Hutzell, Lindsay Miller and Madison Hillyard; and one great-grandson, Isaiah Miller.
Services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
