Sidney Lewis Palmer

Sidney Lewis Palmer, Sr., 76, of Hagerstown, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at NMS Healthcare of Hagerstown.
Born, November 25, 1937 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late John Ralph and Mary Caroline (Martin) Palmer.
Mr. Palmer retired from the City of Hagerstown as a Line Man at the Municipal Light Plant where he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 307.
He was assistant chief at the Western Enterprise, Company 4, Hagerstown. He was a 40 year plus member of the Improved Order of Redmen, Conocoheague Tribe #84 of Williamsport, Md., he was past Sachem of the order and held several appointments within the tribe and also at the state level.
His hobbies included Model Railroad and Motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy Louise (West) Palmer; three sons, Sidney L. Palmer, Jr. and wife Brenda of Hagerstown, William Palmer and wife Sarah of Fairfax, Va. and Brian Palmer and wife Wanda, of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren; one brother, John Ralph Palmer of Hagerstown; two sisters, Shirley Swam of Shrewsberry, Pa. and Doris Sweeney and husband, Tom, of Boonsboro and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-9 P.M.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
