Susan Jeanne (Hawke) Place, 71, of Hagerstown, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Coffman Nursing Home.
Born September 8, 1944 in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Louis Edwin and Dorothy Geraldine (Blank) Hawke.
She graduated in 1962 from South Hagerstown High School. Susan was homecoming queen and co-captain of the cheer leading squad. She enjoyed mountain biking, horseback riding, flower gardening, line dancing and swimming. Susan attended St. John Episcopal Church.
She had 32 years of service with the Washington County Board of Education, retiring from South High after 20 years of service as cafeteria manager.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Joseph Ray Place; two sons, Jeff Place and wife Jean of Atlanta, GA., Michael Place of Hollywood, CA.; a sister, Kathy DeMario and husband Frank of Walkersville; three grandchildren, Ryan Place, Tara Place, Jena Place; six nieces and nephews; special friends, Steve Reed and Cindy Glass; and her beloved Golden Retriever, Jack.
