Sydney Craig Clevenger

Sydney "Craig" Clevenger, 84, of Hagerstown, passed away, Friday, December 9, 2016 at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown.

Born March 5, 1932 in Hagerstown he was the son of the late, James "Sidney" and Georgie C. (Eickelberger) Clevenger. In addition to his parents he also was preceded in death by one sister, Janys E. Clevenger.

Mr. Clevenger was a 1950 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

He was a US Army and National Guard veteran.

Mr. Clevenger retired from Mack Trucks and was a member of Local 171. He also had worked at the Greencastle Golf Course, and as a motor carrier for the Herald-Mail.

He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Chewsville, Md. The Funkstown American Legion and a lifetime member of the Community Rescue.

He was the official scorer for five years for the Hagerstown Suns when they first moved here. He was the public address announcer for the Smithsburg High School Football and Basketball teams and also with the Valley Little League.

Mr. Clevenger loved playing golf and softball here and in Ocala Fla. He was an avid Washington Redskins and National's fan.

He loved animals and will be missed by his kitty Gizmo.

Mr. Clevenger is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Ruth L. (Ridenour) Clevenger; three children, Daryl L. Clevenger of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Chris Cameron of Texas and Gina England of Ocala, Fla.; three grandchildren, Carly Cameron and Sarah Stroup (Charlie) of Texas and Airman First Class, Brady England, Dover AFB, Delaware and two great grandsons, Carter and Judd Stroup.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown with Rev. Jim Johnson Officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-9 P.M.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bethel united Methodist Church, 21006 Twin Springs Dr., Smithsburg, MD 21783.
