Vergie L. Smith, passed away, Wednesday, September 8, 2021. She was born, December 21, 1938 in Washington County, Md. Her parents were the late, Charles D. and Edna V. (Welty) Rudolph.
Vergie graduated from Hagerstown High School class of 1956.
She was the widow of Oscar M. Smith, Sr. who died in 1980.
She worked 29 years for the Board of Education in the Publications Department. After her retirement from the Board of Education she worked 13 years as a secretary at Shepherd College.
She was a member of Grace united Methodist Church for over 50 years, having been a member of the adult choir, co-president of the Temple Builders Sunday School class, and enjoyed serving her Lord through music. She was the pianist for the adult Sunday School for several years.
She is survived by a step son, Oscar M. Smith, Jr.; cousins; step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, step great great grandchildren and step great great great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Rest Haven Cemetery with Pastor Dionne Hall officiating.
Friends will be received on Monday September 13th from 5-7 P.M. at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown.
