Wanda Jeannette (Basore) Toms
Wanda Jeannette (Basore) Toms, 85, of Hagerstown, passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born August 18, 1927 in Fairplay, she was the daughter of the late William Ernest and Mabel Viola (May) Basore.
Mrs.Toms graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1945 and went on to attend Washington County Hospital School of Nursing in the Cadet Core.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hagerstown, a charter member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Holy Family of St. Joseph #2245, the Halfway Homemakers and a past member of the Ladies of the Elks
.
Wanda retired after 38 years as a sales manager at Montgomery Wards in Hagerstown.
She loved to travel and go on cruises and visited all 50 states.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Marvin E. Toms; a daughter, Jennifer "Ginger" Beattie and husband Michael; a son, Gregory Toms and wife Darlene; a sister, Barbara Scott; a granddaughter, Kim Weaver and husband Brad; two grandsons, Jeff Beattie, Bill Beattie and wife Brenda; two step-grandchildren, Eric and Leslie; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Sizemore and husband Bryan, Alyssa, Caitlin, Bralyn, Brendan and Maleigha Beattie, McKenna and Payton Weaver; five step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in laws.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Kunkleman, Jean Basore, Joan Gower; brother Bill Basore; and a great-grandson, Nathaniel Weaver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 17630 Virginia Ave., Hagerstown, with Father Greg Ferri officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Friday from 6-8pm in Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, MD.
Memorial contributions may be made in Wanda's name to Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.
