Willard Fenton Slifer, Jr.

Willard Fenton Slifer, Jr., 85, of Hagerstown, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at his home.

Born June 4, 1931, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Willard F. and Frances Fuller (Shull) Slifer.

He was a 1949 graduate of Hagerstown High School. He also received degrees from Dickinson College and Benjamin Franklin University.

Willard was a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He worked as a partner for Smith Elliot & Kearns, CPA's; construction accountant for Mack Trucks, Inc.; controller at Citizen's National Bank of Waynesboro; controller and VP of Mountaineer Bankshares, and retired in 1996 as the senior bank auditor at One Valley Bank.

Willard was the past president at Suburban Hagerstown Kiwanis Club, where he was active in their Key Club; a life member at Capital District Foundation, B.P.O. Elks No. 378, Kiwanis International, where he had perfect attendance for 45 years; past Lt. Governor at Capital District; a member of American Institue of CPA's, Maryland Assoc. of CPA's, American Legion Morris Frock Post No. 42, AmVets Post No. 10, Forty & Eight Voiture 651, and the Improved Order of Red Men No. 84.

Willard is survived by his daughter, Amy Joanne Slifer Kann and husband Michael Kann; a son, Mark Willard Slifer; two step daughters, Elizabeth Anne Beman Race, Alyce Louise Beman Pearsall; a stepson, Richard Ransom Beman, Jr.; three grandchildren, Keirston Rinehart and fianc Nathaniel Horner, Kari Rinehart, and Charles Rinehart, III; three step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Silas Horner and Weston O'Conner.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joanne Mary Roulette (Blickenstaff) Slifer; and his second wife, Betty Lois Ocker Beman Slifer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, with Chaplin John Sumpter officiating.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
