William Cameron Fraley

January 22, 1926 — July 15, 2017

William C. "Bill" Fraley, 91, of Hagerstown, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Greenfield Assisted Living.

Born January 22, 1926, in Frederick, he was the son of the late George Victor and Rosella Catherine (Miller) Fraley.

At an early age, Bill knew he loved music. He took trumpet lessons at the YMCA and performed as a soloist with the YMCA band at the Maryland Theatre at the age of 12. He played trumpet with the Hagerstown Municipal Band under the direction of Dr. Peter Buys; held a spot with the Hagerstown Symphony; and sang in local choirs and choruses.

He was a 1944 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

Following graduation, he joined the US Army Airforce during WWII, where he served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations with the 20th Air Force Headquarters Band. He also played trumpet for the U.S. Air Force Show Band in Guam.

He was the past president of Local 770 A.F.M.; a life member of American Legion;and was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Bill was also a past member of the Hagerstown Municipal Band, the Johnny Knepper Band, and his own group, the Bill Fraley Band.

Bill retired from DuPont after many years of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Irene L. Fraley; a son, Dennis L. Fraley and wife Rosanne of Frederick; a daughter, Linda Baxter and husband Greg of St. Cloud, FL.; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Janet L. Fraley and son, Jeffrey L. Fraley.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10:00am on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Hagerstown, with Rev. Randy Reid officiating. A meal will follow.

Inurnment will be private in Rest Haven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Building Fund, 802 Summit Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
